Will Heidlage is a research director at BGA, where he conducts research in support of clients operating in China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the United States and manages BGA’s programming in Washington, D.C.
Prior to joining BGA, Will served as an analyst with The Asia Group, a strategic consultancy, supporting a range of industries across the Asia-Pacific, including the auto, energy, financial services and ICT sectors. In this role, he prepared briefing materials and communications for C-suite executives, issue updates for government relations teams and strategy documents for market entry campaigns.
Will also brings experience in corporate intelligence, having worked at Kroll Inc., a due diligence firm. There he provided Fortune 500 firms and multinational banks anti-money laundering, anti-bribery, political exposure and reputational risk assessments across the globe. In addition, he published daily political risk and security reports on the East Asian and Latin American regions.
Proficient in Mandarin Chinese, Will began his professional career in China, where he worked in business development for a medium-sized Chinese digital art company, managing its online presence and engaging some of the world’s most respected video game development firms. In this capacity, he developed an on-the-ground, intimate understanding of Chinese small and medium size enterprises.
Will received a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in 2014, concentrating in China studies and international economics. He received a certificate from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center at Nanjing University, where he studied graduate-level courses in Mandarin under Chinese university professors. Will graduated from Pomona College, majoring in Asian studies with a minor in Chinese literature.
