Cover of the book The Consul by Ian Kemish

BGA’s Senior Advisor Ambassador Ian Kemish has published a new book on Australia’s key diplomatic challenges over the last two decades. The book, titled “The Consul: An Insider’s Account from Australia’s Diplomatic Frontline,” examines Kemish’s central role as a leader in Australia’s consular service in some of the defining episodes in that country’s diplomatic history.

The book covers some major events during Kemish’s 25-year career with the Australian government, including the 2002 Bali bombings and the 2005 Indian Ocean tsunami. That career included service as international policy advisor to the prime minister, as ambassador to Germany and as high commissioner to Papua New Guinea. He was awarded membership of the Order of Australia (A.M.) for his leadership of Australia’s response to the Bali bombings.

“The Consul” is available for pre-order ahead of its release date. More information can be found here.
