Eugene is a strategic thinker and corporate affairs expert, who brings with him extensive experience in market entry, investment, government relations, external communications, business development and crisis management.
Eugene’s career of over three decades spans both the government and the private sector. Eugene served in China’s Foreign Ministry for nearly 14 years and was the youngest officer ever promoted to head the U.S. Affairs Division. In that position and later as assistant to China’s ambassador to Washington, he was involved in formulating China’s policy toward the United States and was a key participant in handling major bilateral political and trade issues. While in Beijing and Washington, Eugene established relationships with corporate leaders and helped solve their business challenges in China.
After leaving government for the private sector, Eugene became American Standard Group of Companies’ first senior government affairs executive for China. In the years that followed, he went on to serve in numerous high-level consulting and advisory roles which solidified his preeminence as an expert on corporate and government affairs. These roles include serving as Baker Donelson’s managing director who established the firm’s China office, senior vice president at International Data Group and managing director for the Motion Picture Association of America in China. Eugene served as senior advisor to the National Geographic Society, vice president for Royal Golden Eagle Group, president and CEO at Grand China Group and chief public affairs officer for JUUL Labs for China. In 2019, he co-founded T&Y Associates Ltd., based in Haikou, Hainan Island, with his wife, Cathy Tai.
