Ahmad Syarif

Syarif is an expert in the politics, policy and regulatory dimensions of energy, infrastructure, natural resources and sustainability in Indonesia. He is adept at helping the world’s leading companies in these complex and often highly protectionist sectors to mitigate commercial and reputational risks, develop blueprints and implementation strategies for market entry, partnership opportunities and sustainability. 

Syarif maintains a deep network of policymakers and sector specialists that provide him with nuanced insights on policy, political trends and risks and opportunities to guide companies’ government relations and regulatory compliance. He leads teams supporting due diligence on potential partners and obtaining crucial permits and licenses, while crafting and implementing Indonesia-specific engagement and policy advocacy strategies.  

Syarif helps multinational companies build partnerships with key stakeholders such as state-owned enterprises, government institutions, think tanks and universities. His ability to build consensus among government and private sector stakeholders with varying interests is one of Syarif’s key strengths.   

Prior to joining BGA, Syarif was a government affairs specialist at several Indonesian and international advisory firms. During five years at MediaComm, a Jakarta-based government relations and business advisory firm, he handled crisis management and grassroots communications for clients. 

Syarif holds a bachelor’s degree from Padjadjaran University and a master’s degree from the University of Birmingham. He has received further professional and academic training at the National University of Singapore, Northwestern University near Chicago, SOAS University of London and Leiden University in the Netherlands.
