BGA’s Senior Advisor James Carouso helped anchor a recent think tank event on the U.S.-Australia alliance in the Indo-Pacific. The event was tied to Carouso’s role as the head of the advisory council for the new Australia chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C.

At the event, Carouso, who has decades of experience across the Indo-Pacific region including as former chargé d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Canberra, talked about the evolution of the U.S.-Australia relationship within the context of the Indo-Pacific region, and emphasized the importance of working with business in order to boost ties with the advent of new developments such as the “truly transformational” Australia-UK-US (AUKUS) security agreement.

“The first thing about what we do going forward is we need to bring industry in…to get the best use of all our brainpower in this vital competition we are going to have,” Carouso said.

The event also featured perspectives from other leading voices, including Biden’s Indo-Pacific Coordinator Kurt Campbell and Australian Ambassador to the United States Arthur Sinodinos. You can listen to the full event here.
