Leo Yamaguchi

Leo conducts research and analysis on developments in Japanese domestic politics, critical industries and regulatory shifts to help clients navigate Japan’s evolving policy landscape.
Leo previously interned with the Japan Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. His work assessed developments in the U.S.-Japan alliance, including tariff negotiations and their impacts on Japanese civil society. He also supported high-level policy dialogues such as the U.S.-Japan Security Seminar and Strategic Japan. Earlier, Leo interned with the Council on Foreign Relations’ Japan Studies Program, where he contributed analysis on Japanese domestic politics, including the 2024 Tokyo gubernatorial election and the 2024 Liberal Democratic Party presidential race.
Leo holds a M.A. in Asian studies from Georgetown University and a B.A. in international liberal studies from Waseda University. He is fluent in English and Japanese.
