Aditya Phatak is a public policy and strategic affairs adviser who helps multinational companies navigate India’s evolving regulatory, political and commercial landscape. He advises senior executives on government engagement, policy advocacy, market access, regulatory risk and business expansion across technology, critical infrastructure, defence, energy, financial services and other highly regulated sectors.
Earlier Aditya spent nearly eight years at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi as a political specialist, serving as a principal analyst on internal security, counterterrorism, sanctions, judicial cooperation and U.S.-India relations. He advised senior U.S. officials and congressional delegations on India’s political and policy environment, cultivated relationships across government and policy circles and contributed to State Department reporting on terrorism and narcotics control. He was twice invited to the Pentagon to brief U.S. defence stakeholders on developments in South Asia.
Before that Aditya was a senior researcher at Gateway House, focusing on the Indo-Pacific, maritime security, trade, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure. He began his career as a business journalist with Agence France-Presse and Thomson Reuters, covering economic policy, financial regulation and infrastructure. This blend of policy, regulatory, government and analytical experience provides him with a strong understanding of the factors shaping India’s business environment and growth opportunities.
Aditya holds a master’s degree in defense and strategic studies and a postgraduate diploma in mass communication and journalism. He has taken several advanced political tradecraft courses at the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute and the terrorism analysis course at the S.
