Hugh Bower

Hugh’s vision for bringing BGA’s model in Asia to Africa ensured that he has a leading role in developing our Africa strategy. He saw that BGA’s approach, namely having strong, inspired, local teams in key countries, would help the world’s leading companies deepen their understanding of the dynamic aspirations of Africans.
As Director of Market Development based in Nairobi, Kenya, Hugh is responsible for developing business, identifying talent, supporting our teams, and exploring and coordinating expansion to new markets.
He believes that the private sector can help drive growth and stability, spur policy evolution and innovation, and empower people.
Prior to joining BGA, Hugh conducted research on climate finance in Africa for an institutional investment platform and worked in management consulting in Kigali, Rwanda. He has climbed Kilimanjaro and hiked from Johannesburg to Cairo.
Hugh holds bachelor’s degrees in financial mathematics and commerce from the University of Virginia, where he was enrolled in the McIntire School of Commerce.
Hugh is learning Swahili and speaks conversational Spanish. A converted tennis player, Hugh is climbing the ranks of the Nairobi padel scene.
