Ijlal Hannan

Ijlal helps BGA clients understand key regulatory barriers in Malaysia and identify strategic approaches to navigate the market. He has experience in the public and private sector across multiple disciplines, including national security, intellectual property and development economics.
Previously, Ijlal was a consulting analyst with the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. He co-authored Malaysia’s Shared Prosperity Vision 2030, a national development blueprint addressing the issues of poverty and inequality. His involvement in policymaking stemmed from a deep interest in how political-economic reforms impact industries and institutions.
Ijlal also provided management consulting services to various government agencies in Malaysia, focusing on mission optimization and strategic planning. He worked closely with agency leaders to streamline operations, improve efficiency and align their initiatives with national development goals.
With a background in law, Ijlal was involved in drafting a national report on patent growth in Malaysia and prepared critical analyses of legislation for government stakeholders both at the federal and state levels. Notably, he co-authored a paper on a regional cooperation mechanism to combat terrorism in Southeast Asia and presented the findings at an international conference in Indonesia.
Ijlal graduated with an LLB degree from the International Islamic University Malaysia. He is fluent in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia. He enjoys venturing into the wild in his free time, preferably on two-wheels or on a boat.
