Idris Azim

Idris uses his knowledge of regulatory affairs and public policy to deliver key insights and support BowerGroupAsia’s (BGA) clients in their engagements with the Malaysian public sector. His clients include multinational firms across a wide range of industries, including financial services, enterprise technology, communication services, fast-moving consumer goods, and manufacturing. Idris leverages this cross-industry knowledge base and his experience with foresight to provide BGA with insightful outlook reports which capture key emerging trends, which in the past has also involved him developing risk assessments for the FMCG sector.

During his time with BGA, Idris developed strategies to address clients’ challenges with key Malaysian policymakers and regulatory bodies, such as Malaysia’s central bank, the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry, and the Ministry of Transport. As part of this support, he conducted in-depth research on emerging and present regulations which served to impact client’s businesses; for example, efforts by the Malaysian government to regulate the ride-hailing space and the key interlocutors involved. In addition, he has also been involved in helping clients understand the complexities surrounding force labor in Malaysia, and the motivations behind efforts of the Malaysian government to regulate the entry of foreign laborers. Idris also formulated narratives for his clients to best fulfill their objectives ahead of engagements with key government officials, which have included an industry dialogue with the Malaysian Prime Minister and meetings with key regulators.

Before joining BGA, Idris worked with a public policy advisory firm to develop several strategic public policy blueprints for the Malaysian government. Idris is a passionate futurist and has worked with the Asia Development Bank to develop a vision for the future of transport in Asia.

Idris holds a bachelor’s degree in history from King’s College London. He is fluent in English and Malay.
